Heather Knight supports women’s cricket survey

By , March 26, 2017 2:44 pm

A recent survey to establish current issues and opportunities for women’s cricket has been carried out by specialist cricket supplier, Cricket Deal Direct (CDD) with the support of England Women’s cricket captain, Heather Knight.

“As a brand ambassador for the SM range of cricket kit which CDD imports from India, I know that the team there have a genuine passion for the women’s game, which is why I congratulate them on carrying out this survey” says Heather.

CDD Managing Director, Ian Anderson adds, “The main findings include the need for there to be greater clarity about the pathways for girls to follow from playing cricket at school through to their local club and beyond, which is why it’s great to see that the ECB are providing more support to county cricket boards this year to encourage more participation by girls.

The survey highlights a number of key issues, including the importance of the media in continuing to raise awareness of the women’s game, which we hope will be addressed by coverage of the World Cup and Kia Super League later this year.”

A full copy of the survey findings is available at the CDD blog

To co-incide with the publication of the findings of this survey, CDD has announced that it’s sponsorship of Heather Knight as a brand ambassador will continue for a further two years, with Heather continuing to play with the HK 149 bat and protection, which are part of The Heather Knight Collection available exclusively from CDD.

Ian Anderson says, “We are delighted to be working with Heather and are proud to support her and other top players, who inspire girls and women of all ages to play cricket at all levels. The products we offer as part of The Heather Knight Collection are available at stockists around the UK, and we have a number of exciting plans to make this quality range even more accessible during 2017.

Help shape the future of women’s cricket & claim £10 gift voucher

At Cricket Deal Direct (CDD) we’re passionate about women’s cricket, and with the support of England women’s captain, Heather Knight – and our other SM Ambassadors – we are spending the next few months finding out as much as we can about the women’s game in the UK, as well as the hopes and fears of current and potential players, with a view to publishing our findings and informing debate at all levels about the future of the game.

With input from Heather, as well as a steering group of top women’s cricket stakeholders, we designed and introduced The Heather Knight Collection of cricket kit three years ago. But there is much more to think about over and above the availability of specialist women’s equipment.

We would like to hear your views about the women’s game and invite you to click here to complete a short online questionnaire

To thank you for completing this questionnaire, you will receive a £10 Gift Voucher which you can redeem against any purchase of women’s cricket kit from CDD, and what you say will be added – anonymously – to the voices of other women who share our view that the women’s game will go from strength to strength in the years ahead.

Your email details will not be shared with anyone else, and will be securely stored subject to our internal security policies in line with Data Protection legislation.

The committee and members of Spalding Town Cricket Club and Spalding Ladies rolled out the red carpet to welcome England Women’s captain, Heather Knight, last Sunday who joined in a coaching session with the ladies team as well as presenting the end of season awards to the juniors.

The weather may have been mixed, but the enthusiastic and warm welcome from everyone at the club was mirrored by Heather’s inspirational and down to earth approach throughout the day. As one member of the ladies team said afterwards, “It’s not every day that the England captain goes to Spalding and shares lots of practical tips as well as being so friendly and approachable.”

Heather is a fantastic ambassador for the women’s game as well as a great ambassador for the SM brand, and we are proud to be associated with her.

SM Ambassador Heather Knight appointed England women’s cricket captain

By , June 3, 2016 4:44 pm

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has today announced that Heather Knight has been appointed as captain of the England women’s cricket team across all three formats of the game.

Knight’s first assignment will be against Pakistan later this month in the three-match Royal London One-Day International and three-match NatWest Twenty20 International series, with the action getting underway at the Fischer County Ground, Grace Road, Leicester on Monday 20th June.

England women’s vice-captain since 2014, Knight currently leads Berkshire in the Royal London Women’s One-Day County Championship, in addition to having captained the Hobart Hurricanes in the inaugural Australian Women’s Big Bash League. This summer she will combine England duties with taking charge of the Western Storm in the new Kia Super League.

Heather Knight said: “I’m hugely proud and honoured to be named England captain and can’t wait to face the challenges ahead. It’s a fresh, exciting time for the team and I’m looking forward to seeing how we can develop together at the start of this new era for England women’s cricket. All our focus is now on what we have to come, starting with the Pakistan series this summer.

“It will be no easy task to follow the remarkable success and impact that Charlotte Edwards enjoyed at the helm of the England team over the last ten years – she has been a wonderful servant to the game, an inspirational leader and truly world class player. She is a true cricketing legend and it has been a privilege to share a dressing room with her for the first six years of my England career. But I am excited by the challenge and will look to utilise the incredible platform that Lottie has laid to ensure that the England women’s team continues to grow and develop.”

England Women’s Head Coach, Mark Robinson, commented: “Heather embodies many of the traits needed to be a successful captain – a superb work ethic, integrity and commitment, along with good instincts and cricket intelligence. These assets combined with her undoubted ability as a player make her an excellent role model, both for the team and young aspiring cricketers everywhere, and I am looking forward to working with her as we rebuild and move the team forwards together.”

CB Director of England Women’s Cricket, Clare Connor, added: “We are thrilled to see Heather Knight appointed as England captain today. There is no greater honour in our sport and few more precious roles across the entire world of sport than the role of England cricket captain.

“Heather has developed her leadership skills significantly in recent years. She led a successful inaugural Women’s Big Bash League campaign with Hobart Hurricanes, captaining the team to the semi-finals of that competition. Having played under Charlotte Edwards for her entire England career so far, Heather has had an amazing mentor and leader. I am sure she will follow in Charlotte’s footsteps with huge pride and determination to take this England team to an even brighter future.”

Knight will become the 21st captain of the England women’s cricket team, and will work closely with Anya Shrubsole, after the ECB confirmed that the Somerset opening bowler has been appointed as England women’s vice-captain. 24-year-old Shrubsole won the England Women’s Cricketer of the Year award for the first time this year – her reward for a successful 12 months which saw her take 32 wickets across all formats including a spell of 4-19 in last summer’s Women’s Ashes series.

Heather Knight is an SM Ambassador as well as lending her name to The Heather Knight Collection, a range of cricket kit designed for women, by women.

How to make your hobby pay for itself

By , February 6, 2016 12:08 pm

If you’re passionate about cricket, and want to play as much as possible, there may be times when you look at the overall cost of your hobby and wish there was a way of making some extra money to cover it. Now there is.

All you need is enthusiasm for cricket and the ability to talk to other members in your club, and you can become a Club Champion for Cricket Deal Direct to promote their great brand of SM bats and cricket gear. SM is a fast growing range of cricket equipment, which Cricket Deal Direct imports directly from the manufacturer to cut out the middle man to offer high quality products at discount prices.

As well as all the cricket gear you would expect to find, Cricket Deal Direct also has an impressive range of women’s kit designed by women for women called The Heather Knight Collection, with the full support of England Vice Captain, Heather Knight.

There’s also superb products for coaches and juniors, as well as great value outdoor cricket equipment.

It won’t take up much of your time, and the only up-front cost is a small outlay towards the cost of a sample kit for you to use, which you will easily recoup with your first order. Everything you then earn throughout the year will be yours to keep, which you can use to pay for your hobby.
