SM Cricket in Finland

By , September 8, 2017 7:09 pm

Cricket nations around the world are becoming increasingly familiar with the SM Cricket range, from the traditional centres of the game including India and the West Indies, to England and the other UK nations. But it is in the emerging countries in particular that SM Cricket is really making an impact, and the exclusive UK and European distributor, Cricket Deal Direct (CDD) has, in the past year, embarked on a unique relationship with Cricket Finland.

Along with the other Scandinavian countries, Finland is enjoying a surge of interest and participation, with the national body Cricket Finland now providing support and guidance to clubs across the country.

This support includes Cricket Finland having established a business partnership with CDD to supply Finnish clubs on a ‘one-stop shop’ basis with the comprehensive Indian branded range of SM Cricket kit. CDD is an ICC preferred supplier while SM is an ICC approved manufacturer.

As the season got underway in May, clubs throughout Finland have successfully been using SM kit and reporting great success and satisfaction. One of the major tournaments in Finland – coincidentally called the SM Viikko – has enjoyed national TV coverage which has created even greater awareness of the quality of the SM Cricket range.

As Cricket Finland Chairman, Andrew Armitage explains, “It was important to source a suitable single new equipment partner to assist with the National development of the game, so as to create a Finland where cricket is recognised as a leading sport and as a primary contributor to health, sporting participation and social cohesion.”

CDD Managing Director, Ian Anderson added that “We are proud to have established a relationship with Cricket Finland to support their aims for the growth of the game throughout the country, and in particular are delighted with the response from clubs who have provided us with positive feedback after using the SM range.”

The relationship between CDD and Cricket Finland has also seen CDD sponsor three of the Finland national players including skipper, Nathan Collins, who has reported his enthusiasm for the SM range, as he has been using an SM bat and other kit throughout the season.

As Cricket Finland and CDD continue to develop their relationship, plans are now in hand to supply clubs throughout the country for the 2018 season, with a product launch anticipated very soon.

A great summer of women’s cricket – Spotlight on Scotland

By , August 6, 2017 4:02 pm

England Women may have taken all the plaudits with their stunning World Cup victory, and the Kia Super League is about to get underway for the second time, but let’s not forget all the great successes north of the border where Cricket Deal Direct is proud to include Scotland Women’s captain, Abbi Aitken, as an SM Ambasador.

Abbi has been playing for Carlton CC in Edinburgh this summer when Scotland commitments permit. Carlton Women have recently won the Cricket Deal Direct Womens Premier League so that’s been a great highlight of Abbi’s summer already.

Scotland Women had the Global World Cup Qualifiers earlier in the year (February) out in Sri Lanka. Whilst they didn’t qualify for the World Cup it was a fantastic experience for the squad, to test themselves against some tough and well drilled opponents. Scotland had South Africa in their group so as Abbi says, “It’s pretty cool to say we challenged ourselves – and definitely were able to walk off the pitch with our heads held high – against the 2017 World Cup semi-finalists! After Sri Lanka the squad had a few weeks rest before resuming their preparations for the summer season”.

The Scotland Wildcats (the ECB County Squad) have been competing in Division 2 of the ECB County T20 Cup where they are currently sitting in mid table in 4th place. The Wildcats have two games to go against Notts and Essex Women who are currently sitting top and bottom of the league table respectively. As Scotland won promotion to Division 2 last year, their aim was always to cement their place in division 2 this season so hopefully they can achieve that after the last rounds of the T20.

Scotland Women have a very packed August ahead. Tuesday 1st to Friday 4th August, they had a series (Celtic Cup) against Ireland Women in Dundee, Scotland. The series consisted of 1 x 50 over game and 3 x T20s, which Ireland took with 3 from 3. Ireland are a familiar opponent for the Scots so it was a good week of cricket with a new look Scottish squad who tested themselves against a strong and experienced Ireland side.

After the Celtic Cup, Scotland Women have the ICC Women’s T20 Qualifier – Euro/Americas. This is taking place in Stirling, Scotland from the 14th to the 18th August. This tournament is the regional qualifier for the Global T20 Qualifier which takes place in the first half of 2018 (the ICC yet to announce the date and location) which ultimately leads on to the Women’s T20 World Cup taking place in November in West Indies.

In short, Scotland have to progress through the Euros/Americas qualifier, and then the Global qualifier to be in with a chance of reaching their first ever World Cup. Tough ask but they will be focussing on the Euro/Americas qualifier coming up first of all. Scotland, USA and Netherlands are competing in the tournament and each play against each other twice throughout the week. The top 2 teams progress through to the Global Qualifiers.

C’mon Scotland!

Cricket Deal Direct and Cricket Finland

By , July 16, 2017 11:06 am

Following a successful pilot project earlier this year, Cricket Deal Direct (CDD) and Cricket Finland have announced plans for CDD to refine their processes to supply all cricket clubs in Finland with SM branded products as well as bespoke teamwear and other kit.

Andrew Armitage, Chief Executive of Cricket Finland explains, “Working with a specialist UK based supplier makes perfect sense for Cricket Finland as we can offer our clubs a choice of top quality products as well as providing them with value for money, and sound practical advice.

As we discovered during the pilot project, the distance involved does not detract from the overall opportunity for clubs in Finland to source a comprehensive range of kit that would otherwise be difficult for them to assess, as we do not enjoy the luxury of specialist retailers here in Finland. CDD have shown a willingness to supply lots of samples as well as sponsoring members of the Finland team, which means that we have already started to build awareness of the quality of products on offer.

We are looking forward to the next phase of working with CDD with an updated rage of products to be launched in the Autumn.”

Ian Anderson, CDD Managing Director, acknowledges that the relationship with Cricket Finland, as well as county boards and clubs throughout the UK, allows CDD to further enhance its on-line offering to significantly improve the customer experience, and maintains the company slogan of #NoMiddleman, which means that by sourcing products direct from manufacturers, CDD can continue to pass on the savings to their customers.

CDD now supplies Cricket Finland and their clubs, as well as Cricket Espana and many boards and clubs in the UK.

CDD welcomes new member of the team

By , May 31, 2017 11:00 am

shetul patelCricket Deal Direct (CDD) is pleased to welcome another member of the team who shares our passion for the game. Shetul Patel, who in his day job is an Operational Support Analyst, follows what he says is “cricket running in his blood” and has been associated with several clubs, currenty, TFL Pirates CC and Epping CC.

As an all-rounder Shetul loves to bowl and bat, as well as being a very active fielder. Unfortunately a right shoulder injury has curtailed his bowling and he is now waitiing for an operation – which is much needed, as he is also wicket keeper for Epping CC.

Undeterred by injury, Shetul still plays regularly and is also now working with CDD in the London area in a regional sales role, to service the needs of clubs who want to see and feel SM bats and other kit for themselves. Shetul will soon become a regular visitor to many clubs in and around London and so when you see him, ask to see some SM kit – as well as enquire about his shoulder of course.

Shetul is married and has a young son – who no doubt will find that the cricketing blood inspires him in due course too!

Following the recent survey to establish current issues and opportunities for women’s cricket it has been announced by Cricket Deal Direct (CDD) that England Women’s cricket captain, Heather Knight has renewed her contract with the company to continue as an SM Ambassador and support The Heather Knight Collection

“As a brand ambassador for the SM range of cricket kit which CDD imports from India, I know that the team there have a genuine passion for the women’s game, which is why I’m delighted to continue working with them” says Heather.

CDD Managing Director, Ian Anderson adds, “Our recent survey shows that there needs to be greater clarity about the pathways for girls to follow from playing cricket at school through to their local club and beyond, which is why it’s great to see that the ECB are providing more support to county cricket boards this year to encourage more participation by girls. From our perspective, it is a real plus that we are continuing to work with Heather Knight who is an inspiration to girls and women of all ages who want to get into the game.

The survey highlighted a number of key issues, including the importance of the media in continuing to raise awareness of the women’s game, which we hope will be addressed by coverage of the World Cup and Kia Super League later this year.”

A full copy of the survey findings is available at the CDD blog www.cricketdealdirect.com

Heather will continue as a brand ambassador with CDD for a further two years, and continuing to play with the HK 149 bat and protection, which are part of The Heather Knight Collection available exclusively from CDD.

Ian Anderson says, “We are delighted to be working with Heather and are proud to support her and other top players, who all inspire girls and women of all ages to play cricket at all levels. The products we offer as part of The Heather Knight Collection are available at stockists around the UK, and we have a number of exciting plans to make this quality range even more accessible during 2017.”
